Presenting our approach to place-based, digital and participatory learning experiences in Florina
NEXUS Innovation participated in the 4th International Scientific Conference Diamorfosis, held in Kastoria from 2 to 4 October 2026, under the theme of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in Education.
During the conference, we presented our paper:
“From the digital map to experiential field-based learning: participatory digital routes in Florina”
The presentation focused on our approach to designing learning experiences that go beyond the simple transmission of information. Instead, we explored how digital tools can support observation, storytelling, participation and meaningful connection with place.
Through the case of the Digital Tour of Florina and SELFIE Florina, we presented how a small city can become an open learning environment for students, educators, residents and visitors. The applications were discussed not only as digital products, but as evolving learning experiences shaped through real use, feedback and redesign.
A central part of the presentation was the development process from 2022 until today. Over the past years, the applications and related learning scenarios have been tested through Erasmus+ activities, educational visits and field-based experiences with students, educators and visitors from Greece and abroad. Each implementation cycle has helped us improve the usability, language, instructions, missions and educational value of the experience.
The presentation generated strong interest and led to a lively discussion with educators, education stakeholders and representatives of civil society. The questions that followed gave us the opportunity to present the wider vision of NEXUS Innovation: to design educational, cultural and digital experiences that connect people, places and ideas.
The conference was also an important networking opportunity. We had meaningful discussions with members of the local education community and civil society organisations, while we also started exploring new possibilities for collaboration with Diamorfosis.
For NEXUS Innovation, this participation was an important step of outreach and recognition. Most importantly, it confirmed that small cities such as Florina can become living spaces of learning, creativity and collaboration when local history, digital technology, education and community engagement come together.
We warmly thank the organisers of the conference for the hospitality and everyone who contributed to the discussion around our work and vision.
We continue designing experiences that connect people, places and ideas.
